Sapadere Canyon is a narrow gorge hidden in the Taurus Mountains about 45 km from Alanya, where a wooden boardwalk bolted to the rock leads you past waterfalls and ice-cold natural pools. The canyon runs for roughly 600 metres, with walls rising up to 400 metres on either side.
This guide covers the practical side: how to get there, how the entrance fee works, how demanding the walk is, how cold the water really gets, and whether a tour makes sense. Travel Alanya has been organising tours here since 1990 (TURSAB licence No. 11267); on our Sapadere tour the canyon entrance is included and there is no prepayment — you pay your guide on the day.
Where is Sapadere Canyon and how do you get there from Alanya?
Sapadere Canyon sits about 45 km from Alanya, near the village of Sapadere in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains; from Antalya the distance is 179 km. The road climbs away from the coast through banana groves and mountain villages.
You can drive yourself — expect around an hour on a winding mountain road — or join a day tour that handles the whole journey. Tours collect you at your hotel, and the route itself is part of the experience, passing the banana plantations and Sapadere village.
The Travel Alanya Sapadere Canyon Tour runs daily and lasts about 6 hours, combining the drive, the canyon walk and a streamside lunch in one programme.
How much is the Sapadere Canyon entrance fee?
There is an entrance fee for Sapadere Canyon, and the current amount is posted at the ticket gate — it can change from season to season, so we deliberately do not quote a fixed number here. The canyon is run as a managed nature site with a ticket office and maintained walkways.
If you visit on a tour, you can skip the maths: on the Travel Alanya tour the canyon entrance is included in the price, along with hotel transfer, guiding and lunch. Prices start from 26 EUR per person.
There is no prepayment. You reserve your place on WhatsApp and pay the guide on the tour day, so nothing is charged online — and your guide handles the tickets, so you never deal with the ticket desk yourself.
How long is the walk and is it difficult?
The main walk is an easy stroll along a wooden boardwalk of roughly 600 metres, fixed to the canyon walls with iron rods. It is mostly flat, needs no climbing, and there is no rush — take as long as you like for photos.
The canyon itself is about 600 metres long with side walls rising to around 400 metres, so the scenery is dramatic even though the walking is gentle: rock faces on one side, the stream and its pools on the other.
If you want a proper hike, a 3,358-metre ecotourism trail opened around the canyon in 2022. Day tours stick to the main boardwalk; the long trail suits independent hikers with their own transport.
How cold is the water — can you swim?
The water in Sapadere Canyon stays at roughly 5 to 10°C even on the hottest summer days, and rarely rises above 12°C. You can get into the natural pools, but think of it as a short, bracing plunge rather than a proper swim.
That cold is exactly the attraction: in July and August, daytime highs around Alanya reach about 34°C, and stepping into the canyon feels like walking into natural air conditioning. Keep dips short, especially for children.
Bring swimwear and a towel, and wear shoes with decent grip — the boardwalk and the rocks near the pools can be wet.
When is the best time to visit Sapadere Canyon?
The best time to visit is high summer, when the coast is at its hottest and the canyon's shade and icy water feel like a reward. The Travel Alanya tour runs every day of the week.
Spring and autumn are quieter, with fewer visitors and the stream running full. The water is cold in every season, so the natural-pool experience does not depend on the month.
Earlier in the day tends to be calmer and better for photos. On a tour you do not need to plan timings at all — the programme is built around the canyon's best hours.
Should you visit Sapadere on a tour or on your own?
The short answer: take a tour if you do not have a car or simply want a planned day; go independently if you have your own wheels and want full freedom over your schedule.
The tour bundles everything into one price: hotel pickup, the 45 km mountain drive, the canyon entrance, a guide and a streamside lunch. Going alone, you arrange a rental car or taxi, pay the entrance fee at the gate and sort out lunch yourself.
The Travel Alanya Sapadere Canyon Tour starts from 26 EUR per person, lasts about 6 hours and includes the banana groves and Sapadere village on the route. We are a TURSAB-licensed agency (No. 11267); you book on WhatsApp and pay on the day.
