Peninsula and Castle

Alanya Cable Car

Since 2017 this line has been the easiest way up to the castle. You board at the lower station in Damlataş and ride the nine-hundred-metre line up to Kale station; as the cabin rises, Cleopatra Beach opens up below you. The eight-person cabins arrive every twenty seconds, so the queue usually moves fast. Tickets are return tickets valid all day, and you can walk down instead if you prefer.

The lower station is in Damlataş, right beside the cave and Cleopatra Beach, and the upper station is simply called Kale, the castle. When the line opened, the local press presented it as a project Alanya had long been waiting for, linking the Damlataş and Cleopatra shore with the castle.

It is a detachable gondola. The cable never stops moving; when a cabin enters the station it releases the cable and slows down, and once you are on board and the door closes it grips the cable again and speeds up. That is why the fourteen cabins keep cycling without a pause, with an empty one arriving in front of you every twenty seconds.

Tickets are sold as returns and stay valid for the whole day. You can go up in the morning, wander the castle and ride back down in the late afternoon, or take the cabin up and walk back down between the walls.

On our cable car and castle tour the ticket is handed to you, and you get two to three hours of free time at the castle. Whether you stick to the free parts such as Ehmedek and the Süleymaniye Mosque or climb all the way to the inner castle at the top is up to you.
