Portakal Beach
A beach on the eastern side of town, usually named together with Keykubat. The peninsula the castle sits on splits Alanya's shoreline in two: Cleopatra to the west, Keykubat and Portakal to the east. Portakal has no Blue Flag of its own; the flag flies over the two public beaches of its neighbour Keykubat. If you want water that is inspected, that is the nearest choice.
The records of TÜRÇEV, which runs the Blue Flag programme in Türkiye, sum up the eastern shore in one line: east of the peninsula lie the Keykubat and Portakal beaches. The flag is an award given anew every year, and on the eastern side it is Keykubat's two public beaches that carry it.
Their histories differ. Keykubat West's award list goes back to 1996, with a single gap in 2003. Keykubat East has been on the list every year since 2016. Both registry pages publish seawater tests taken through the 2026 season up to October, while the last line of the award list still reads 2025.
Portakal itself is not on that list. That does not mean the sea is poor there; it means there is no independent inspection record for that stretch of shore. Knowing this when you choose a beach also explains why the flag matters: the record is proof that the water is tested regularly through the season.
Our city tour stays on the peninsula, around the castle and Kızılkule; the beaches of the eastern shore are outside the tour, for a day you set aside yourself.
