This guide covers Alanya's climate month by month, the sea temperature, the best time to visit Alanya and the low season. Note: the Turkish state meteorological service does not publish a separate monthly table for Alanya, so these figures are the official normals for Antalya on the same coast, with sea temperatures from measured data.

What is Alanya's weather like month by month?

The year in Alanya swings between a hot, dry summer and a mild, wet winter. January and February are the coolest months, with daytime highs around 15°C, and most of the rain falls then (December averages about 250 mm in total). In spring the air warms quickly and the rain eases off.

When is the best time to visit Alanya?

For a beach holiday the best window is June to September: daytime highs of 31-34°C, the sea at 24-29°C, 9.7 to 11.7 hours of sun a day and almost no rain. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, so if you would rather skip the peak heat and crowds, June and September are more balanced.

For sightseeing, historic sites and nature tours, spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are more comfortable. The air is mild, the crowds are thinner, and you can do the Red Tower, the castle and canyon walks without wilting in the heat.

In winter (December to February) Alanya is quiet and wet; the beach season is closed, but the town and its surroundings are still mild enough to explore. So the best time depends on what you want: summer for the sea, spring and autumn for sightseeing and cooler air.

How warm is the sea in Alanya?

The sea in Alanya reaches 28-29°C in summer, and it is warmest in August and September (around 29°C), with July close to 28°C. In June the sea is about 24°C and in October about 26°C, so late summer and early autumn are still very pleasant in the water.

The swimming season runs from May to November, when the sea stays above 20°C. In winter (December to February) it drops to 17-19°C, cool for swimming but pleasant for a walk along the shore.

The clear, warm sea is at its best for boat trips and beach days between June and September.

Can you swim in Alanya in October and November?

Yes, you can swim comfortably in October, when the sea is around 26°C and the air is still warm. November is the last month of the swimming season: the sea usually stays a little above 20°C, though some days can feel cool.

These two months are a good option for anyone who wants to escape the peak heat and summer crowds and still get in the sea. You can sightsee in the cooler daytime and swim in the evening. A light layer is worth packing, as evenings can turn cooler.

From December the sea drops to 17-19°C and the swimming season closes; that period suits city and nature trips more than the beach.

When is the low season in Alanya?

The busiest months in Alanya are July and August, while the low season is winter (December to February) and, in part, early spring and late autumn. In those periods the crowds thin out and the streets and beaches empty.

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the shoulder season, with fine weather and none of the peak summer heat; they suit sightseeing and stay quieter than the height of summer. Winter is the quietest stretch, with more rain but still mild days.

If calm and comfortable sightseeing are your priority, choose spring or autumn; if the sea and a full summer atmosphere are what you want, go for June to September.
